Membership

Each Sunday, we encourage you to come and be a part of First Church.  Whether or not you have joined the church “officially,” you are welcome here.
Membership is a step that many choose to make to enhance their faith life at First Church.  For many, membership provides a designated place, a foundation, and a commitment.  Membership also allows those who join to be voting members of our community.  As such, your capacity to influence how the church will be in the world (outreach we will support, statements we will make, how we will spend our stewardship dollars, etc.) will be significant.  Though your volunteer services will never be declined, another benefit of membership is that service as a Deacon or on our Church Council first require that one officially joins First Church.
If you would like to explore membership with the church, simply email Pastor Mark Montgomery, or contact the church office.

Baptisms

The Sacrament of Baptism is a welcoming into the faith community.  For infants and children, parents or guardians make promises to raise the one being baptized in the love and compassion of Christ.  If Godparents are included, they make promises to nurture the child and support their exploration of faith.  When the child is older, they may be a part of Confirmation which provides education, support and nurture as they seek to make their own promises and proclamation of faith.
For older children or adults who wish to be baptized, the questions for baptism will be answered by you directly and upon your baptism, you will be encouraged to join the church.
For more information on baptism, to request a date for baptism, or to receive a copy of our baptism questions, beliefs and liturgy, please contact the church office.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Worship

Our worship service is casual and we hope that you will worship as you feel led.  We love a good “Amen” or “Preach Preacher!” but silent reflection and engagement are great too.  Children, even fussy ones, are always welcomed in our worship service.  That said, if you would like to take a bit of a break with your child, the worship service can be heard in the Narthex (Foyer by the Green) or the Parish Hall (Large Room behind the pulpit and choir).  Additionally, we have church school for all aged children and a Nursery for our youngest.  Children may depart for Church School following the Children’s Sermon.

We celebrate Communion or the Eucharist the first Sunday of each month.  Baptisms, Membership, Confirmation, and other special services happen on Sunday mornings as well on designated Sundays.

In addition to our faithful exploration of the Bible, our services include music from our Chancel, Children’s, or Gospel Choirs.  The music is sometimes charismatic, other times reflective yet always a vital way the message of God’s love is communicated.

We hope that you will join us on Sunday mornings at 10AM.

Youth Group

The FCC Youth Group (ages 13-18/grades 8-12) engages in service projects, both within our church community and in the broader local community. The FCC Youth Group holds discussions of social justice issues, faith, and whatever is on our hearts and minds to share with our peers in a safe space.
